Story Time

My name is Carl Talaue and I am a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a Le Cordon Bleu Certified Chef. I am a life long martial artist as well as a competitive athlete. The years of dedication and experience to different sports at a competitive level gave me the tools to start my journey in creating the Talaue Athletic Club (TAC) Fitness & Nutrition Program.

I have always led an active lifestyle. At age 5, I started swimming and practiced Kajukenbo Karate. At the age of 7, I started playing basketball where I was quite successful juggling three sports while still getting A’s and gold stars at school. Despite being active, I was not the ideal athlete. I use to get made fun of and teased because I was a chubby kid but I knew I was athletic so it didn’t bother me.

As a teenager I went through rigorous training in all my sports such as having double days of swimming practice that had me in the water at 5 am then going to school and back in the water right after. I was still somewhat of a chubby kid but my high school years is where I flourished. I was also an MVP of my high school swim team all 4 years and one of the best in my league while still practicing karate. My dedication gave me the discipline and focus in and out of athletics. Without this experience I would not have the same mindset I have today which to never quit and to always work hard.

Upon graduating from high school, I attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, where I studied to become a Le Cordon Bleu Chef. It was during this time that I gained a lot of weight and hit the heaviest I have ever been at 222 lbs. Upon completion of my culinary education in 2007, I immediately attained a job with Levy Restaurants at the Oracle Arena. I had the privilege to cater in the VIP/Courtside Club Restaurant feeding the 300+ courtside season ticket holders, as well as catering to the Golden State Warrior players themselves. With all the responsibilities and long shifts, it was then that I realized that I needed to lose weight in order to keep up with those 12+ hour days.

In 2010, I started my weight loss/fitness journey. Being an athlete all my life, I knew that every fitness regimen needed a great foundation in order to be able to get to the next level. In the course of 2.5 years, I lost over 80 pounds and have successfully kept it off. With my fitness success, I decided to get into the world of teaching fitness and health by starting TAC Fitness. After leaving Levy Restaurants in 2012, I didn’t want my culinary education to go to waste so I put my love for food and nutrition together with fitness to create TAC Fitness & Nutrition.

TAC Fitness & Nutrition is having the best of both worlds in one place. The convenience of having one person as your chef and trainer can put you on the path to a healthier lifestyle. I continue to lead an active life and work towards new goals. My journey now is to educate and change the lives of others through my program. Together we can get fit, eat smart, and stay healthy!
